2 Samuel 9:1-13
The account of King David showing kindness to Mephibosheth teaches us something about the kindness of the King of kings toward us, for the Lord had chosen David for being “a man after His own heart” (1 Sam 13:14). David told Mephibosheth, "You shall eat at my table always," like one of the king's sons. Mephibosheth responded, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog such as I?” This is a picture of how we should respond to the unexpected, undeserved offer of salvation in Christ. Yet, with proper humility, may we not hesitate to embrace this offer with joy, so that, like Mephibosheth, we too may "eat always at the King’s table".
