Joel 3

Bringing the sermon home:

What are God’s plans for the future? In short: judgment and salvation.

Through the prophet Joel, God instructs His enemies to prepare for battle and to gather before Him. But then, while seated on His throne, He simply speaks a word of judgment and the heavens and the earth quake. “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Heb 10:31).

Is there any escape from that dreadful day? Where could refuge possibly be found from this terrifying God? It is found in Him, for the God who judges is also the God who saves: “the Lord is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the people of Israel.”

So, “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;  let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon” (Isa 55:6-7).
