Proverbs 15:16-17
Bringing the sermon home:
Just because the road you’re on is rougher than you think it should be doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong road. You are better off walking through difficult with God than thriving without Him. This is not simply because of the eternal reward that awaits those who walk by faith. It’s better for you right now to have “a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.” How so? Because the inner disposition of your heart has a greater impact on your genuine wellbeing than the outward situation in which you find yourself.
This means that you will not be happy with the earthly things you think will make you happy until you’re able to be happy without those things. The way to be content with “a little” is to delight in God’s everlasting love for you
more
than you delight in anything else. While not every Biblical proverb is a promise, you can take these to the bank. May we all learn the secret of “loving a little”.
