Law and Love

The sermon on Sunday was titled “The Law of Love”. At the end, I mentioned five ways in which we can think of God’s moral law as “the law of love”. I've summarize those points here.
God’s law is “the law of love” in the sense that:
- It can be summarized in one word: “love your neighbor as yourself” (Gal 5:14; Rom 13:9).
- It is a loving gift from God, as God’s law reveals both His character and His good designs for our lives and is thus part of how He seeks our good. This is in part why James has twice referred to God's law as "the law of liberty" (James 1:25; 2:12).
- Obedience to God’s law is the means by which we give expression to our love for God (John 14:15).
- Obedience to God’s law is motivated by our love for God, which is itself motivated by the love that He has shown to us (1 John 4:19).
- Telling others about God’s law is part of how we love them, earnestly desiring and actively seeking their good by sharing about the only path to true freedom (James 5:19-20).
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Evan
